Becoming A New Football Official

We Always Welcome New Officials - We'll Train You In A Classroom Setting To Prepare You For The Field

Thank you for expressing interest in becoming a High School football Official. The Southern Tier Chapter of New York Certified football Officials (STFO) has a two (2) year training program that puts you on your way to becoming a Certified football Official. Training classes are held simultaneous with STFO Chapter meetings on Monday evenings. New and second year football officials attend training classes for the first four to six (4 - 6) meeting of the High School Football Season. After the initial classes, you will work on the field with other Certified Football Officials. Freshman (i.e., Modified) Games are usually played on Thursday afternoon after school; Junior Varsity (JV) ames are played on Saturday mornings (occasionally on Friday evenings); and Varsity games are played on Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evenings.

Football players, coaches, and families work very hard to prepare for their football season. STFO work very hard to be able to provide these athletes, teams, coaches, and families the best game possible.

If you are interested in becoming a new official, please complete the form provided on Contact Us web page and an STFO Board Member will contact you and provide additional details.

Take the first step by testing your football knowledge. Take the Quiz (provided by referee.com). Answers to questions are provided at the end of the Quiz.
Good Luck!
